Title: Fun with Math/ Topic: God's Sense of Humor

TodayÂ’s Reading: Ezekiel 45; Ezekiel 46; Luke 1

Scripture: Ezekiel 45:12
12 The shekel is to consist of twenty gerahs. Twenty shekels plus twenty-five shekels plus fifteen shekels equal one mina.

Observation: There are some funny things in the Bible. It's a reminder to me that God has a sense of humor. I can just see the Israelites after reading this verse, counting on their fingers to figure out that a mina is 60 shekels. Why didn't God just say that in the first place? Sometimes I think he just likes us to have to think and work a bit to understand his word. God is a little quirky sometimes, a bit inscrutable in his ways. I think he enjoys watching us to see if we "get it" when it comes to some of his puzzles. This is actually a pretty simple one. If you watch for them, there are more complex ones (Revelation is full of puzzles). He knows the answers to all of them, but I do think he has some fun with us, just as we do with our kids when we don't give them straight-forward answers but "tease" them with questions or statements that make them think.

Application: God is not a stuffed shirt. He has a sense of humor. He can be a little "quirky" so I don't think he minds when we are too. I think he really enjoys the differences in all of us. We need to not be so "uptight" and demanding of people that we can't stop and be amused by the differences and thank God for them.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for a sense of humor. We're made in your image and I think our ability to laugh and find the humor in things is a gift from you. I appreciate it Lord. May we all enjoy one another's little quirks and foibles as part of the unique expressions of your handiwork in us.
This I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

Cynthia,
Of course God has a sense of humor. He made me, didn't He?

Ha ha,

Michael
