Title: Truth from the Untruthful/Topic: Our Source

Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 16; Deuteronomy 17; Deuteronomy 18; Psalm 38; Galatians 2
Scripture: Deuteronomy 18:9-13
9 When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God.

Observation: God judged and destroyed the nations where Israel was going because of what He determined were evil, detestable practices. In other scriptures we learn that these people sometimes told the truth and could even perform miraculous signs and wonders. But it is not just truth we need to look for. The source of truth is also important. God makes it clear that our source for truth needs to be Him. Satan is the father of all lies but he knows how to use the truth for the purpose of deception. He desires to draw people away from God and ultimately, destroy them.

Application: Truth is truth, yet according to this scripture, it is still vital that we understand and discern what the source is that we are getting the truth from. We may be amazed at mediums or psychics that speak to the spirit world and get accurate information, but God warns us about seeking truth from these people. Only God is to be our source. We must trust the Holy Spirit to reveal to us what God wants us to know.

Prayer: Father, our world is filled with alternative sources of spirituality and truth. Keep us, as your people, tuned into you and hearing from you . Help us to discern the spiritual source of those we listen to. May we bring honor and glory to you at all times.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
