Title: Unlikely Candidates/Topic: God's Grace
Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 22; Psalm 17; Psalm 35; Matthew 6
Scripture: 1 Samuel 22:1,2
1 David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and his father's household heard about it, they went down to him there. 2 All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.
Observation: Look at the people who came to support David; those in distress, in debt or who were discontented. Not your select group of candidates for anything! In my experience, working with people who are discontented to begin with is nothing but a headache! They usually do nothing but criticize and complain. But this is the group that David becomes the leader of. And they end up becoming his leaders when he finally becomes king.
Application: If God can use this rag-tag group of people and turn them from whiners and complainers and victims to loyal, strong leaders, then he can use anyone. Anyone who is willing to stick with God and trust him through all kinds of situations can be made into a person of great worth and value, a leader worth following.
Prayer: Father, thank you for working with me to change me for the better. Help me to see and focus on the potential in others. I want to be used by you to help bring about transformation in the lives of anyone who wants it. Re-make me on an ongoing basis and help me to mentor others in that process as well.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
