Title: Before We Know/ Topic: Gods Love

Today’s Reading: Zechariah 7; Zechariah 8; Zechariah 9; Luke 13

Scripture: Zechariah 9:9
9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Observation: This verse is a well-known prophecy about the coming of Jesus. It was spoken hundreds of years before Jesus came and is referenced in the New Testament. God knew, long ago, what we would need in a savior. Someone righteous, able to save and gentle in spirit. He sent someone to be our Savior who perfectly meets all our needs, a Savior custom-designed for us.

Application: The thought that struck me as I read this very familiar verse is how much God shows his love for us by preparing everything we need way in advance of our even knowing we need it. Not only did he give us a perfect Savior but he provides comfort, courage, provision, correction, forgiveness, healing and everything else we need. We think these things appear for us when we need them, but actually he knew before we did when we would need them and prepared them beforehand. What an awesome God!

Prayer: Thank you Lord! Thank you for giving me comfort when I cried out to you in times of gut-wrenching grief that I thought would kill me; but you brought comfort just before all my hope was gone. You have been there for me in every time of trouble and every time of joy, giving me just what I need when I need it. My heart rejoices in you, my God and Savior.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
