Title: X-Rated Talk/ Topic: Betrayal
Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 22; Ezekiel 23; Ezekiel 24; Revelation 9
Scripture: Ezekiel 23:18-21
18 When she carried on her prostitution openly and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister. 19 Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 21 So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled. (emphasis added)
Observation: The language and imagery that God uses to describe the betrayal of His people is shockingly graphic. This is x-rated literature! Why would God talk like this? I think He wants to shock us. He uses sexual imagery to relate His feelings about His people worshipping other gods to a husband's feelings toward an adulterous wife or a father's feelings regarding a daughter who has become a prostitute. God is trying to communicate to us the emotional impact on Him when we stray from His love. The intimacy of the sexual act is meant for two people in love to share in a totally private setting. In any other setting it becomes two (or more) people simply fulfilling animalistic desires with lust, but not necessarily any love, involved.
Application: God's love for me runs as deep as a devoted husband or father. He feels as possessive and protective of me as a husband and father would be. When I give my love to any other person or thing He is hurt. I don't want to hurt my loving God. I want to treat God with the kind of respect that a loving father and a devoted husband deserves. He must be number one in my life. How wonderful that He feels such passion for me! To be that desired is thrilling.
Prayer: Father, thank you for communicating to me the depth and intensity of your passion for me in terms I can understand. I want to be worthy of your love. I desire to be faithful to You and You alone.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Hi Mom!
Well, you made a good point with a bizarre set of verses... I certainly wouldn't have picked that part of the Bible reading to discuss. But you're right. There IS a lot of X-rated talk in the Bible. God doesn't really care about our sensitivities when it comes to that stuff; he just wrote it into the Bible anyway. Or maybe he does care about our sensitivities, but uses them to create shock, make us pay attention and get the point... which I guess is your point, isn't it? :-)
Love you!
Stacy
