Title: Unto the Least of These/Topic: Gentleness

Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 25, 26, 27 and Galatians 5

Scripture: Deuteronomy 25:4
4 Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.

Observation: The gentleness, kindness and care of God for all of creation is beautifully expressed in this short verse. He instructs us that we are to make sure that animals are allowed to feed as they work for us. We are not to demand labor without letting them graze and refresh themselves with food. Paul later points out in the New Testament that this principle carries over to people as well. Laborers should share in the profits or benefits produced by their labor.

Application: We are stewards of this earth and we are to treat all of creation with kindness and justice. Having God in my heart should affect the way I behave toward animals and toward the environment. God gave us charge of the earth and all that is in it. By taking care of the earth and all its creatures I am showing love for God and expressing gratitude to him.

Prayer: Thank you for creating such a beautiful place for me to live. May I honor you by treating all life with respect and kindness.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
