Title: Handling Depression/Topic: Inner Peace
Today’s Reading: Judges 8; Psalm 42; 1 Corinthians 15
Scripture: Psalm 42:5,6
5 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and 6 my God. My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.
Observation: David has figured out what to do when he is depressed. There were no doctors to run to in his day for mood-altering pills. He went to God. The Lord was his psychologist, psychiatrist and physician. David poured out his troubles to God and praised God for his goodness as an antidote for depression.
Application: God understands more than anyone else could about how I work. When I am “in the pits”, my first response needs to be just like David's --- run to the Lord. He is my source for healing.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for the healing power of the blood of Jesus for all areas of my life. When I focus on you, it is difficult to remain in a state of self-pity for you have given me all things richly to enjoy. Help me to maintain an attitude of gratitude and to praise you through all circumstances.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
