Title: Pray About the Obvious/Topic: Wisdom

Today’s Reading: Joshua 9; Joshua 10; Joshua 11; 1 Corinthians 6

Scripture: Joshua 9:14,15
14 The men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the LORD. 15 Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath.

Observation: Some things are just obvious and we don't need to pray about them, right? That's just what Joshua did in this story. It was obvious from the worn out clothes, patched wineskins and moldy provisions that these men had come from a far distance. No need to ask God about the wisdom of making a treaty with them. But Joshua was fooled. Everything the Gibeonites did and said was for the purpose of deceiving Joshua and his leaders. They relied on their own wisdom and senses to make their decision because the right thing to do was so obvious.

Application: I need to seek God's wisdom even about what seems to be obvious. He knows all things and I can be deceived just as Joshua was. Seeking God about a decision, even ones that seem like “no brainers”, doesn't bother him at all and it is protection for me. Ask, seek, and he will answer.

Prayer: Father, there have been way too many times in my life that I have made decisions based on my common sense and reasoning that have turned out to be wrong. Help me to learn the lesson of Joshua and to ask you about anything and everything. Give me favor and success in my life. Bless me Lord, and give me your wisdom in all things.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
