Title: What Goes Around Comes Around/Topic: Sowing and Reaping

Today’s Reading: Judges 1; Judges 2; Judges 3; 1 Corinthians 12

Scripture: Judges 1:6,7
6 Adoni-Bezek fled, but they chased him and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and big toes.
7 Then Adoni-Bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off have picked up scraps under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them." They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

Observation: Very interesting that this pagan king receives the exact punishment from the Israelites that he has inflicted on so many others. He reaped what he had sown. The law of the harvest is seen in its full effect in this story. It is an eternal law that God put into the fabric of the universe when he created it. The only time it is suspended is by his grace.

Application: The law of the harvest is still in effect today and I would do well to remember that. If I am critical of others, whether in public or in secret, I can expect that others will be critical of me. If I am greedy, I can expect to reap stinginess on the part of others toward me. If I am kind and generous, others will extend kindness and generosity toward me. If I extend grace, I will receive it back from others. If I am not getting what I want in life, I need to take a long look at what I am “sowing”.

Prayer: Father, I want to sow love, goodness, respect, generosity, faith, self-control, and all other good things. May I give them out in great measure, expecting the law of the harvest to give me back what I sow in abundance. Even when others give me grief in some way, may I invoke the principle of sowing and reaping by responding to their negativity with forgiveness, love and grace, knowing that you will pour more of those attributes back into my life as I do so. Thank you Lord for your goodness to me.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
